Replacement starts from an opening that already has something in it. The old window or door comes out first, and what that reveals decides most of what happens next. Sometimes the framing behind it is sound and a new unit drops into the same space. Sometimes it is not, old flashing has failed, wood has rotted at the sill, or an old aluminum frame has corroded, and that has to be dealt with before a new unit goes in.

We measure the existing opening and the old unit, remove it carefully so the surrounding stucco or trim is not torn up in the process, and then look at what is actually there. That inspection decides whether an insert replacement, new unit into the existing frame, is enough, or whether a full frame replacement is the honest answer. Either way the new unit gets matched to the opening, not the other way around.

A lot of Albuquerque homes still have single pane aluminum windows from decades back, and those frames have usually taken some corrosion by now. Finding that early, before the new unit is set, is what keeps the job from having to be reopened later.

How it runs

  1. Measure existing opening The current unit and opening are measured before ordering anything new.
  2. Remove old unit The old window or door is taken out carefully, protecting the stucco or siding around it.
  3. Inspect what is behind it Framing, sill and flashing are checked for rot, corrosion or water staining before proceeding.
  4. Choose the method Insert or full frame replacement is decided based on the actual condition found, not guessed ahead of time.
  5. Set and seal The new unit is fit into the opening, sealed and insulated.
  6. Finish and test Any disturbed trim or stucco is patched and the new window or door is checked for proper operation.
